VIPER GUARD AND WRIGHTSURE TO HOST JOINT CONFERENCE Two of the leading names in commercial vehicle security and insurance are joining forces to help guide fleet operators through the jungle of new regulations regarding lone worker safety and corporate manslaughter. Safety and security equipment retailer Viper Guard and specialist transport insurance broker Wrightsure Insurance Group are to host a one-day conference at Viper Guard's home base, Warwick HRI at Wellesbourne near Warwick (J15 M40), on Thursday 30th October. The event will feature presentations from the industry's top legal and safety experts, and leading safety and security specialists have booked exhibition stands. The conference – Attacks on Drivers and Corporate Manslaughter - takes place against the background of the International Road Transport Union's shock survey of attacks on drivers, and Frank Heinrich-Jones of Wrightsure will present the results of the IRU survey.John Smith, head of the Crime Department at leading transport solicitors Ashford's, will speak on the legal and regulatory issues relating to corporate manslaughter. Viper Guard General Manager Debbie Jones said: “The scale of attacks on drivers revealed by the IRU survey makes it imperative that fleet operators have a thorough grasp of the many new responsibilities imposed on them by recent regulatory changes. This conference is intended as a one-stop opportunity for them to explore these very serious issues in person with the experts and to come away with a clear understanding of how to meet the new legislative challenges.” The conference will cost £39 plus VAT per delegate, including morning coffee and lunch. To book your place, or to take an exhibition stand, ring Debbie Jones or Nick Blake on 01789 471515. |

A new addition to commercial vehicle safety and security specialist Viper Guard will help operators ensure they're on top of the latest directive from Brussels - literally! Supplying a ladder from the Safety-Mate range of four variants means owners are fully compliant with the European Working Height Directive, which has just been extended to cover commercial vehicles outside the depot.
Falls from vehicles while loading or unloading or during maintenance are the second most common cause of injury to drivers and other personnel in the road haulage industry, and operators face heavy penalties, as well as possible negligence claims, if they are found to be at fault. Last year one major fleet was fined £120,000 with £28,000 costs after a driver was killed in a fall of just two metres. |

Every driver has one - a mental list of favourite stops for a brief rest or a good night's sleep. Places where they know they'll be both safe and well looked-after Now commercial vehicle safety and security specialist Viper Guard is asking them to share their secrets.
The Warwickshire-based company is already well-known as Britain's leading on-line and mail order distributor of its own additional cab security device, Lokgard, and of other makers' security products. But General Manager Debbie Jones also cares for drivers' comfort and peace of mind and says they can help each other by recommending favourite truckstops all over Europe.
Debbie pointed to the work of Secure European Truck Parking Operational Services, currently halfway through a 10bn-Euro two-year pilot project. SETPOS's first Secure Parking Area opened at Uhrsleben on the A2 between Hanover and Berlin last September and comes complete with secure fencing, patrols, constant monitoring, security lighting, and the checking of vehicles in and out. |
